SINGER / SONGWRITER MUMA GEE
Muma Gee, is a Nigerian multi – talented artist whose career started as a singer, song writer. Born in Port Harcourt and raised in Abuja, she now lives in Lagos. In 2001 the song and her live performance of “Love for peace and progress” album brought her to the limelight. Shortly after that she won two AMEN Awards (Best Female Vocalist & Best Rising Female Singer). Later that same year she was privileged to open the show for the late Mariam Makeba at the Royal Festival Hall in London. Muma Gee served twice as Chairman of the performing Musician Employers Association of Nigeria, Rivers State (2002-2004 and 2015-2017).
Her single “Kade” was extremely well received and became the title to her second album released in 2006. The single received five nominations at the Nigerian Music Video Awards (NMVA). She collaborated with various artists and producers such as Samini, VIP, OJB, Cobhams Asuquo and Terry G to name but a few.
In 2009, Muma Gee was nominated for four awards at the 3rd Nigerian Music Video Awards.
In 2010 Muma Gee’s career reached new horizons after taking part in the celebrity edition of Nigerian reality TV series Gulder Ultimate Search. Her third album titled “The Woman in Question” was very well received by the media and the public. In her first single “Amebo”, she reflects on people, values and heritage, devoting her career to showcase and promote culture and tradition in her unique way. Her devotion for culture and tradition got her coronated on the 7thof January 2006 a Chief first, then later in 2016 August 15th made a High Chief as the Onyo 1 of Ekpeye Kingdom in Rivers State.
She created Muma Gee Foundation, where she shares her Humanitarian vision by empowering the youth and women through motivational speaking, mentoring, fundraising and funding for vulnerable people such as the girlchild, disabled ones, orphans, women victims of abuse across Nigeria and much more.
In February 2012, she released "Port Harcourt Is Back" to commensurate the National Sports Festival hosted in Rivers State. In this song she commends the positive transformation her hometown went through, this was followed by series of songs she expresses the reappraisal for womanhood, African woman’s beauty, strength and pride.
After taking some time out, she is back with “Double your Hustle”, first single to her new EP coming out on the 25th of January 2020 at the MUMA GEE LIVE- CULTUREROCKS LAGOS (music. Arts. Culture) a concert geared towards global peace.
