Fashion in Africa by Seun Elegushi.

The fashion industry is a  giant industry all over the world. Most people see fashion as a means of covering the body with clothing materials, while some see it as a means of expressing themselves, and their culture.

Fashion has evolve to just clothing but to promoting the culture in which one lives in. As technology advances, so does fashion.

Africa is a continent full of dynamic cultures, language, and fashion styles. Over the years African have improved on their indigenous materials for clothings such as Adire materials, Ankara, etc which the European countries have adopted into their fashion style.

As Africans it is important to know that we must embrace our own culture, even in the fashion line. Yes, the world is becoming westernized, but remember the Asian countries. How they keep to their cultural heritage is one of the reason they stand out today in economy, standard of living, and of course why their fashion attires are recognized all over the world.

Africa too is taking a turn of it own in being regocnised by the world. Our native attire is now mixed together with western designs to create contemporary African designs.
Even in our accessories, materials such as Ankara are user to create hand brackets, neck piece, shoes, palms, and sandals.

Even popular celebrities are known to wear Ankara materials, celebrities such as Beyonce, and Kim Kardasian. Knowing this it is evidence that the African style of fashion is being recognised and accept at the international level. Therefore we should not as Africans ourselves kill or demote our own fashion by disregarding them, instead we should embrace them, and support them by purchasing contemporary African designers wears. We should go for fashion shows set aside to promote the African fashion and wear them to events and outing, not just Owambes.

With that being said. Let us focus more of our attention on African designs as it's our heritage which speak our culture.
