Hello everyone, this week, I will talk about the need to adequately care for our skin so we can keep looking beautiful, youthful & healthy.
The
Skin is the largest living organ of the body.it is a covering (from head to the
toe) that helps to keep our insides (internal organs) in and also keep foreign
invaders out.it is the closest contact we have with the outside world.
The
Skin is made up two layers:
1)
The Epidermis (the outer layer).
2)
The Dermis (inner layer)
These
two layers rest on a third layer known as the subcutaneous fat, and sends
signals to the brain to set physiological functions in motion.
As
we age, our skin changes, elasticity and strength of the skin declines,
wrinkles set in due to different factors e.g exposure to free radicals, harsh
weather conditions, unhealthy lifestyles, lack of proper care, continuous use
of cosmetics with harsh chemical
compounds which most times do more harm than good to our skin.
If
we take good care of ourselves throughout our lifetime, we can reduce the
visible effects of the aging process and keep our skin looking better for
longer.
FUNCTIONS OF THE SKIN
1.) Regulates the body temperature.
2) Helps the body get rid of waste matter (through sweat).
3) Acts as a water reservoir.
4) Helps to manufacture Vitamin D from Sunlight.
5) Houses our senses e.g.
touch, pain etc.
