Please introduce yourself to us and what you do for a living?
My name is Kemi Salami. I am popularly known as Kemsal. I
studied and possess HND in Insurance from the Polytechnic of Ibadan, Oyo State.
In search of greener pasture, I moved to London where I went further to study
and obtain certificates in professional acting courses, and Health and Social
care from Barking College in London.
I have produced very thrilling movies like, The Wish, that
featured Lateef Adedimeji, Sola Kosoko-Abina, Taiwo Hasan aka Ogogo, Lanre
Hasan (Iya Awero), Rykardo Agbor and directed by our own Yemi Amodu.
I have also produced
a film titled Forever Mine, which is due to debut on NETFLIX. It was also
accepted and recently screened across the cinemas in Nigeria because of its
technical and and artistic qualities.
It featured Femi
Adebayo, Kareem Adepoju aka Baba Wande, Joseph Momodu, Adebimpe Oyebade aka
Mobimpe and many more. The movie was directed by Doyin Amodu, a First Class
Graduate of Film Practice from London South Bank University.
Professionally, I am a member of TAMPAN, TAMPAN Guild of
Producers and the Treasurer of United Kindom Chapter of TAMPAN.
How did acting start for you?
My passion for the entertainment started at a very young
age when I joined the Junior TV Club with Channel 8 which is now know as Lagos
Television. The programme was sponsored by 7up. It was fun back then that was
when I decided I wanted to be in the industry.
You have been acting now for how long?
I joined late Remilekun Lawanson Theatre Group as a child
actor and started acting professionally at NTA Children’s Program, Tales by
Moonlight. I featured in some movies like Rituals the movie, Borderline, Night
Out etc before I moved to UK.
At the moment I am focusing on producing.
How challenging has it been sustaining your interest in
acting abroad?
As we all know that the Acting Industry in the Diasporas
lacks recognition both from the audience and colleagues back home (Nigeria),
but we are trying our best to put ourselves forward in the industry.
However, TAMPAN as an association has given her members in Diaspora
the opportunity to collaborate with their Nigerian counterparts.
My next project is still cooking and hopefully will be shot
in UK, Nigeria and South Africa.
