She is one of the accomplished young ladies in business. She is focused. She is steadfast and creative. Damilola Otubanjo is the pretty lady behind Milolar Signature.
Citypeople Online Fashion and beauty Magazine spoke to her about the secrets of her success and she revealed a lot.
Damilola revealed why she went into fashion business........
How did you get into fashion business?
Fashion for me was born out of passion. I have over time experienced disappointment with tailors and designers. I wanted to be able to wear comfortable and elegant apparels which most times are in my head and when I engage a tailor they often don't deliver on my designs which often leaves me disappointed and makes me loose the appetite for making native attires.
With time, I thought if I have such issues, alot of women also would share same concerns and been a fashion conscious, perfectionist personality I decided to fill the gap I identified.
Not that there weren't enough people in the ready-to-wear space but I believe what I have to offer would be acceptable to modern contemporary woman who wants to be attired in regal, classy and comfortable Apparels. So meeting my fashion needs in the area of clothing was the spur towards starting the fashion business.
What services do you offer customers at Milolar’s Signature?
We offer premium, classy, comfortable and elegant apparels for women. We offer an experience, a quintessential experience. Our offerings covers ready to wear apparels under the label Milolar's Signature while our Milolar Luxe Apparels cater to bespoke outfits for Occasions & Events. Our designs are designed to serve woman of all class and size.
How did you coin the name?
Milolar is from my first name DaMilolar. For me integrating a personal brand into a corporate brand gives it more strength and authenticity. Offering myself through my services is the best expression of my innate desires and abilities. It has a strong connection to my person.
And I address my clients as Milolar Women, by sharing an intangible part of me which for me is beyond selling clothing. My offerings are beyond the physical garment, I'm simply extending myself through the people that wear my brand.
Tell us about you. I know you are the first Sisi Oge in Lagos. Tell us more. How did winning Sisi oge helped you?
My name is Damilola Otubanjo. I am the 1st Sisi Oge of Lagos, a pageant i won in the year 2007 and reigned through 2008 before handing over. Been a beauty Queen has its many advantages. The platform helped me unlock my hidden potentials and I was able to connect more and discover myself more through the roles and expectations I had while wearing the crown.
The tenure remarkably improve my level of awareness of self and it's one of the greatest benefits of winning the crown for me. I had gone on afterwards to pursuit exploits I wouldn't have dared to, had I not connected more with my inner being. My first degree is in Physics with Electronics and a 2nd degree in Renewable Energy Engineering.
I had before my masters set up an NGO called The PinkDove Initiative which was fostered to help young people particularly the female gender. Upon the completion of my master's degree i took a job with the Lagos State Government and worked in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and then to head the Renewable Energy Unit under the Lagos State Electricity Board. I worked in the Lagos State service for 5years before i stopped to start my fashion business in 2017.
Tell us about your fashion Style
My fashion style is elegant, classy and comfortable Apparels. For me fashion means comfort but it must have a sense of elegance to it.
