An appealing and heartwarming sight is seeing beauty Queens and models come together for charitable causes. It completely shatters the stereotypical idea that they are a selfish and overrated bunch with very little or no compassion for the less privileged. It is safe to say that Naomi Campbell, Agbani Darego, Iman, amongst others have continued to lead the way in that respect with their ongoing charitable causes.
Following
in the footsteps of these Beauty Queens and models are winners of Ebony
Ambassador Creativity contest for whom a fund raising gala was held with the
aim to enable them embark on a charity mission to Ghana, Nigeria and Sierra
Leone. The fund raising event was well attended. Dignitaries included diplomats,(Minister
Counsellor Head of Chancery) Sierra Leone High Commission and many others.
In a conversation
with the organiser Irene Eribo Ani. Ebony Ambassador aims to break the mould
from just being a beauty contest. The winners will give back to their countries
of Origin by sharing their skills and knowledge, especially to young boys and
girls arming them with creative skills. They will be taught beading, rhinestone embellishments, and will
also be tutored in makeup and sewing.
Furthermore,
the Queens in collaboration with NGOs in the different countries, they will
facilitate youth empowerment programmes with the aim of encouraging
entrepreneurship. The ladies will pay visits to orphanages with donations to
support their services. Not done, visits to maternity wards with starter packs
for new mothers is also part of the programme.
